For nearly three decades, I’ve never followed a traditional path.
From my original training at Curtis and Juilliard and throughout my international career, I’m proud to have performed – and often helped create – several of the most celebrated cello pieces and collaborative works of our time.
I know that classical music will never lose its power to transcend, but I also believe it can be removed from the outdated context of ‘historical performance’ to have even greater visceral impact. Today I both perform and design programs that give a fresh perspective to traditional repertoire by juxtaposing it with current compositions in contemporary settings. Performed in tandem with other disciplines of the arts, these programs create a more resonant cultural experience for performers and listeners alike.
Music speaks best when an audience is there to listen. Using my skills, contacts and vision, I will help take your next event, festival or season to a whole new level.
Let’s create something great together.
Heralded as “one of the great leading cellists of the classical stage” by the Wall Street Journal, Wendy Sutter has proven herself as one of the foremost and diverse soloists of her generation. Having performed widely on five continents, she has been acclaimed by critics in all major publications including The New York Times, Strad Magazine, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, and The San Francisco Chronicle.
The magnificent cellist Wendy Sutter presented Glass’ Songs and Poems I & II to a sold-out room... Sutter played it with assured power and pride.

Sutter, in a word, was magnificent. Her rich, grainy sound was amplified by the acoustic of the crypt to where her instrument had great physical presence... Sutter was constantly compelling, and one felt her dig into the music deeper with each note, reflecting the inner expanses she uncovered through the controlled passion of her playing.
